BTN fine gold

Gold is a rare precious metal that you find underground. It is a soft metal which can be beaten into different shapes and sizes. There are three types of gold, they are White Gold, Yellow Gold and Rose Gold. Gold is measured in carats which tells you how much gold you are getting, the most common being are 24, 18 and 9. 24 carat gold is pure gold, 18 carat gold has 75% gold and 9 carat gold has 37%. 18 carat gold and 9 carat gold are more often used to make jewelry. Jewelers use lots of gold to craft rings. The things you need to use to melt gold is oxygen and gas and needs to be heated at 1000 degrees. After that it is cooled and then filed down. Next it is softened with a blow torch and then bent into the shape of a ring. Finally it is polished and cleaned. Then you add shiny colorful stones to decorate it. Jewelry made of gold is loved all over the world.

Mathsmate problem 24

Prediction: I predict that this will be about adding numbers.

Clarify: Nothing to clarify.

Question: The question is asking what numbers you need to get certain numbers. The numbers are forty three, fifty five and thirty.

Mathematicians tool box: The strategy I used from the mathematicians tool box was trying all possibility’s.

Answer: The numbers which make all the answers to the question are thirty four, nine and twenty one.

Mathsmate problem 24

Prediction: I predict that this will be about adding and trying all possibilities.

Clarify: Nothing to clarify.

Question: The question is asking what numbers you need to add into the circles. The numbers you need to end up with are 18, 18 and 12.

Mathematicians tool box: The strategy I used from the mathematicians tool box were trying all possibilities.

Answer: The answer for the question is 6 at the top, 12 on the right hand side and 6 on the left hand side.

Behind The News

This Behind the News I did was about how chocolate factory’s make chocolate. Each week  factory’s make 15 tons of chocolate. Chocolate was discovered by the Aztecs who lived in central America. They discovered coco trees and the beans were used for money, and they made a drink out of it. Then a Spanish explorer went to Europe to show the Europeans chocolate which they then started chocolate houses. Then a dutch chocolate maker made chocolate that we could eat by mixing the coco butter which was on top of the chocolate, and sugar together with the coco which produced the sweet treat we know of today. In factory’s they make over 100 000 pieces of it a day! When they make it they make sure it has three qualities. It has to make a snap when you break it, it has to melt in your mouth and it has to have a smooth texture.

100 Word Challenge week 25

In a quiet town a girl called Molly was preparing to feed her white spoodle called Alfie. As she got his bowl to feed him she heard howls from outside. It was a pack of dogs. Molly decided to feed Alfie anyway, but when she lifted the lid to get the dog food there was a massive BANG at the door! There was a thundering sound as all the dogs in the town came barging in. Then they all sat around her whining and panting. She thought they were begging for food. They were indeed begging for a midnight snack.

Behind The News how pearls are formed.

For this weeks Behind The News I watched a video about how pearls are formed and made. It all starts in Broms town in Western Australia which is famous for its orange soil and its beaches, but the most famous thing it is famos for is its pearls. In the 1800’s sea pearls were very popular. The pearl company makes 200, 000 dollars a year by getting pearls. The way pearls are formed are by sea shells at the bottom of the ocean in sertain shells. Then some moustere in the sea gets into the shell and forms a perfict pearl. The largest pearl in the world that has been found was called Lao Tzu which mesured 24 cm wide and weighed more than 6 kelograms and cost 60,00,00 dollars to get!

Mathsmate problem 22

Prediction: I predict that this will be about drawing faces and patterns.

Clarify: Nothing to clarify.

Question: The question shows 8 Faces with different shapes, lines, eyes and nose’s. The pattern is a square with white eyes three lines for hair and a dark nose. Then a circle with two hairs, a gray nose and half dark and half light eyes. Then a hexagon with dark eyes one hair and a white nose. So that is what the pattern is. Except you move the shapes along by one.

answer: The answer for the missing face in the question is a square with two hairs, half light and dark eyes and a gray nose. So that is the answer for this weeks Mathsmate.

BTN port river dolphins.

The Behind the News I watched was about a pod of 30 dolphins which live in the Port River in Adelaide. The researchers are studying the dolphins to see if they are healthy and how they survive in such a polluted river. A pod means a group of animals or mammals, for example; a flock of birds, a herd of Elephants. In Port River there are lots of factories and buildings which pollute it, but for some reason the dolphins love the river because there are lots of fish, it is a shelter from storms and sharks can’t get in.  Sometimes from the pollution the pods can lose baby Dolphins and in the video the pod lost 2 baby Dolphins. Some of the ways this can happen is the pollution can get into the fish they eat, which can make them sick. Dolphins also have fun in the river by riding waves, but they aren’t waves at the beach, they are the formed waves from large cargo ships.

100 Word Challenge

In London three kids were preparing for bed when suddenly a figure appeared at the window. His name was Peter Pan and he was from a magical place far away. The kids went to a strange place with Peter Pan. They then found a small turtle with a mine on it so they called it MineTurtle. After that they found a HUGE cave so they went inside it, and they found a nest with 12 eggs in it. They took them home and had omelets for dinner. After dinner their Dad asked what the turtle was. He pressed the button on the top. KABOOM!

Mathsmate problem 23

Prediction: I predict that this will be about adding numbers and testing them.

Clarification: nothing to clarify.

Question: The question is asking which two weights out of 2, 8, 9 and 5, 6 need to be swapped to make an evan balance of 15.

Mathematicians tool box: The tool I used in the problem were trying all possibilities.

Answer: The answer for the question is putting the 6 with the 9 and the 2, 8 and 5 together which makes a total of 15 for your answer.
