Cambera Camp Reflection

Day 1

On the 24th of the 11th the 5/6’s where going on our last camp, which was up to Cambera. On Monday morning we had to be at school at 6:45 am in the morning to prepare, pack the buses and any other things we had to do before we set off. After a while we where all ready so we got on the bus and left at 7:00 am but we had a very long trip ahead of us, we had to be on the bus for 10 hours with only 3 stops.

On our first stop we had morning tea and then hit the road again, the second stop we had was in a town which was involved in a submarine battle, so in the middle of the town there was an actual submarine in the earth, during that stop we had our lunch and then set off again. Our final stop where we had afternoon tea was at a petrol station. Then we where on the bus for the final 2 and a half hours and then we finally got to Camp Cotter mouth/ our camp which we where staying at.

When we pulled up we got a good look at the camp, it had lots of cabins, a meeting hall/ where we had breakfast and dinner, a soccer pitch with a volley ball court and then in front of the cabins there was a basket ball court. When we got all of our stuff off the buses we where told what cabin we where in, I was in cabin 9 with Luca, Tom  and Bryse. Then after we had our dinner we had a fun activity in the hall called Red Faces. This was a comedy game where people went on a stage and did lots of wacky things, that was hosted by Angus and Declan. All of the people which made us laugh where either soloists, groups of 3 or 4 or really big groups which could have had 3 or 4 cabin groups in them. At 9:00 or 9:30 we had to finish up and go to bed.

Day 2

I woke up at 6:45 am but we couldn’t leave our cabins until the teachers told us to. At 7:00 am the teachers came around waking us up and telling us to get ready for breakfast. Then at 7:15 the breakfast/dinner bell went of telling bus to come to the hall for breakfast. We had bacon and eggs on toast with hash browns After that we had to go back to our cabins or we could hang around outside. We all chose to hang outside. A lot of us got out some basket balls and started shooting some hoops. When the time was 8:00 am we got ready to go to the Embassy (78). After we finished there we went to the Nation IL Museum of Cambera. That museum was all about the history of Cambera. Most of the history we learnt was all about the Government and all things related to that. When we finished there we went to the National film and sound Archive which was all about when Australia started making movies, so it was a museum with lots of filming and sound stuff, some of us even got to work one of the really old recorders, when we saw everything our tour guide told us that when we started making movies we just kept upgrading each year.

After we left the movie museum we headed for a bucket load of science at Questicon. Questicon is like a really big Science Works but with a lot more science and a lot more fun. There where loads of inventions there like 4 player ice hockey, a smock machine, a storm generator and many more massive wonders, but first we went to the gift shop where I got my two souvenir’s which where two Nano Block sets, they where a drum kit and an Acoustic Guitar.

Then we headed back for our camp and then we had dinner, but after dinner we had our next activity at night, we got to go to the AIS/ Australian, Institute of Sport and got to swim in the pool. We left camp at 7:30 to get there on time. When we got there we where seated beside the the pool and where told to get into our bathers. During that all of the teachers started handing out swimming caps. When we reseaved them I said “After we finish in the pool, our heads will literally be flat, smooth domes, because these things are really tight. Then we dived into an hour of fun. In the pool a bunch of kids including me got a ball and played a match of Markers up and every time I tried to catch the ball I would either get slammed face first into the water of be needed in the back. Then we finished and went back to camp and went straight to bed.

Day 3

We woke up and got ready to head to the Electrical Education Center. After we spent a few hours there we went to the Old Parliament house which we got to go into the house of Representatives/the green house. After we finished there we went to the Australian War Memorial. Inside the Memorial there where Weapons, suits, machines, planes, tanks, submarines and any more things that were used in all of the wars Australia was involved in. Then we went to the center of the Memorial where we saw the Pool of reflections, the never ending flame and all the names of people who went to war and didn’t come back. Then we listened to the Last Post Ceremony.

Then we finished there and went to the Black Mountain where we went i to the Telstra tower where we got to go on the observation deck and over look the city of cambera but it was SO WINDY!!!! Then we went back to camp and went to bed.

Day 4

The second last day at camp! and boy was it packed with activity’s but first we went to the NEW Parliament house where we saw debates in action, and the palace like stairs that were made of marble. Then we went to the CSIRO which was like Questicon but with more science to it. We did a few activity’s there and then we went to the AIS where we played a bunch of sports which where very fun and to me one of them was VERY dizzy. Then we went back to camp where we had our MOVIE NIGHT! we got popcorn and watched “Mr Peabody and Sherman” which went to 9:30 and then wen went to bed.

Day 5

The last day with the 10 hour trip home, we had to wake up at 5 o’clock and pack, then after we finished breakfast we got on the buses and left for Melbourne. After 10 hours on the bus with a few stops we got back to school and when we arrived a knew when every body got home they would crash and burn in tiredness. That is my reflection of our Camp at Cambera.

Reflection on Orientation day at high school.

On the 9th of December all of the year 6’s from M.P.P.S, including me went to orientation day at our high schools. The high school which I had orientation day was at Coburg High School,, another person from my primary school who is also a good friend of mine called Angus. When we arrived we had to go up and get our name tags which also said what class we were in. When I received my name tag I was in class 7C, but when I was lining up a saw an old friend of mine who used to go to my primary school, his name was Deter.

After all the future year 7’s arrived and got their name tags the principle called us all to sit down and wait for our teachers to come and get us. Once we got into our classrooms we could start orientation day at high school. My teaches name was Theo. The first three sessions we did where little games to get to know each other. One of the activity’s was that we had to get into circles and get a partner and tell them about yourself.

After recess we had Geography but the session was a game where it would put you in a random place in the world and you have to mark it on a world map. The whole class worked together and our total was (A-). Then we had maths where we had to try and make a rectangular prism using all the big Lego blocks that we were given. Our group managed to make it. Then we had English, we had to do and make poems based on a poem called “10 things my parents would never say” I did mine on my teacher.

After that it was lunch time. Then after we finished that we had our last two sessions of the day which were P.E and Music. We had a VERY sweaty P.E lesson and during that I thought I locked myself in the restrooms when I went to the toilet. Then we had a LOUD session of music which also went for one and a half hours. We got to listen to a performance and then we all went to different rooms with different instruments inside them, I went into the Guitar, Bass and Drum music room, because I play the bass in primary school. Also in high school I am thinking of forming a band with my friend Angus who wants to play the drums. That is my recount of orientation day.

100 Word Challenge week 15

On a cold summer night a boy called Jeff was heading for a BIG christmas party that he was invited to. When he arrived he could hear loud booming music from behind the walls. As he opened the door and walked into a massive celebration he spotted something in the far corner where nobody was dancing. So Jeff walked over to see what it was. It was a little, nervous, strange red person. Jeff said to it “What is wrong, little dude?” Then the person raised his head and said he was a lost elf who was stuck inside the party.

Mathematic question 23

Prediction: I predict that this will be about multiplication skills

Clarify: Nothing to clarify

Question: The question is asking you if a square is 60 cm how big would a rectangle be?

Mathematicians tool box: I used trial and error.

Answer: The way I got my answer was doubling the 60 so it was two squares joined together so I got 120cm.

100 word challenge

It was Halloween night when I spotted a very scary looking haunted house. At the front door there was a sign saying “YOU WILL DIE IN HERE” but i wasn’t afraid of a house with decorations on it. When I knocked on the door and said “trick or treat” but then a hand dragged me inside! I was at a table when a zombie servant came in and said “You should have never came here on this night”. Then all of a sudden the house shook and then started sinking!! We got too the door and jumped out in the nick of time!

Mathsmate problem 22

Prediction: I predict that this will be about how many cubes are n the big cube.

Clarify: nothing to clarify.

Problem: the problem is how many cubes are in the cube.

Way to work out: First you add the cubes that you can see. Then you count one of the 4 by 4 squares again and then count 2 of the big cube parts again.

Answer: When you finish adding all the parts you get your answer, 104

Summery: I think this question was quite tricky but in the end it is easy to add up

100 Word Challenge Week 26

It was a very exciting day at the International Space Station. The world’s favorite space shuttle was about to lift off. “5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0!” the speakers boomed out. Then the rocket lifted off for the moon. As it left the earth’s atmosphere the pilot spotted the emergency light. “Look up! Can you see the huge asteroid field in our path which could send us on a one way trip back to earth?” They swerved, dodged and stopped until a huge asteroid hit the engine which exploded into pieces. Then the ship started plummeting to the earth! But the escape pod was released.

100 Word Challenge week 14

On a lovely day on the ocean a ship called the Star Flyer was sailing for Ireland. On the last day of the trip a crew member noticed on the radar that there was a really bad storm coming. As the darkness of the night fell across the sea, the storm started to form but beneath the water a Megaladon was circling the ship. Then it decided the boat was a whale so it rammed it from underneath causing the ship to snap in half. The next morning the ship was found rusting on the beach, there where no survivors.

GTAC Visit, lesson 5

On Thursday the 12th of July GTAC came to do their final lesson with us. Our goal for the lesson was, to conduct a fair test to explore the concept of rusting. Our first task was to say what we think rusting is so I said “Rusting is when something like metal, has been put into a certain type of water, so the metal would start turning brown and bumpy which will make it rust away.” Them we had to draw up a table in our books which had 4 columns going down the page, after we drew up our page we started doing our first experiment.

The materials we had to use were one tall and thin beaker filled with water, a tablet called Alka-seltzer, one medium sized beaker, a small beaker and a hand full of sand. First we pored the water from the beaker into the medium sized beaker, then we pored the sand into the medium sized beaker, and finally placed the alka-seltzer tablet into the beaker and watched it. After a few seconds is had dissolved  it has made the sand dissolve and it smelled like lemon juice and looked like lemon juice.

Then Chris said for us to walk around the room clock-wires to look at other the other groups results, some results were clear, others had used vinegar instead of water, one group didn’t use the sand that was there and one group used a completely different thing instead of a tall thin beaker. So there were lots of different results instead of one result. Our second activity was the same but we had to time of how long the alka- seltzer to dissolve in certain water temperatures, the temperatures we tried were hot water, warm water, room temperature water and cold water.

We had room temperature water, the amount of time it took the alka-seltzer to disintegrate in room temp water was 45 seconds.

Multi-age literacy activity

On Thursday the 28th of August we had to go to another classroom to do some multi-age book week activity’s. The book that we did it on was called Barnaby and red chook. It was about a dog who lived on a farm and his job was to round up all of the chickens after they had a run around but one chook called red didn’t move from her favorite spot on top of the wood pile. So Barnaby jumped and knocked the wood over sending red flying into the air.

The next day Barnaby went searching for red and found her dead in the sheep yard. When Barnaby forced red of the wood pile he had caused her to have a heart attack, so he took red back to his kennel and lied down around her to keep her warm. After three days red came back to life and got better, in the end she and Barnaby became best friends. The activity we did was making a chicken run which is a long fenced area where chooks and chickens get to run crazily around the place in it.

We had to trace our hand on a piece of paper and add a beak where out thumb was and then do another side of the chook and then scrunch up bits of paper and stuff them in the middle of the chicken and staple them together. After they were stapled we had to decorate and add feathers on them. After we had done that we had to make our own designee of feet that make the chook stand up. Then we had to stick them onto the base that we where going to use as the base of the chicken run. after we had stuck them on we had to do the fence surrounding the chickens so they don’t get out, but that bit we didn’t get to do.
